wwW.THAMESMOTORGROUP.CO.UK AAT S00 FIAT THROUGH THE YEARS MEASURING JUST OVER 9 FEET LONG AND POWERED BY A 479 CC TWO-CYLINDER, AIR-COOLED ENGINE, THE FIAT 500 OR THE FIAT 500, KNOWN INITIALY AS THE "BAMBINA" IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE JULY CINQUECENTO, WAS A "PEOPLE'S CAR" FIRST CITY CARS. PRODUCED BY FIAT COMPANY BETWEEN 1957 1957 AND 1975. LAUNCHED IN JULY 1957 3,893,294 UNITS WERE PRODUCED FROM 1957 TO 1975. DESPITE ITS DIMINUTIVE SIZE, THE 500 PROVED TO BE AN ENORMOUSLY PRACTICAL AND POPULAR VEHICLE THROUGHOUT EUROPE. 1957 FIAT 500 NUOVA THE SUCCESSOR TO THE POPULAR PRE-WAR TOPOLINO, THE NUOVA (NEW) 500 WAS FIAT'S MOST FAMOUS PEOPLE'S CAR. RELATIVELY QUICK AND EFFICIENT, THE HANDLING WAS FUN AND THE STEERING WAS DIRECT. INGREDIENTS THAT WERE TO MAKE IT VERY POPULAR IN ITALY. THIS 'NUOVA 500' WAS TECHNICALLY SIMILAR TO THE 600 - A REAR-MOUNTED ENGINE DROVE THE REAR WHEELS. IT WAS POWERED BY FIATS FIRST AIR-COOLED ENGINE A 479CC UNIT PRODUCING 13BHP. IT FEATURED 'SUICIDE' DOORS AND INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION ALL ROUND. DESPITE SUCH A GREAT RECIPE THE INITIAL SALES WERE SLOW, AND SO FIAT LAUNCHED TWO NEW VERSIONS, THE 'ECONOMICA' AND THE 'NORMALE'. THE 'ECONOMICA' WAS BASICALLY THE ORIGINAL CAR BUT WITH A MORE POWERFUL ENGINE AND LOWER PRICE TAG. THE 'NORMALE' ALSO HAD THE UPRATED ENGINE AS WELL AS VARIOUS OTHER UPGRADES THAT MADE THE CAR EASIER TO LIVE WITH. THESE CHANGES LED TO THE SUCCESS OF THE FIAT 500 AS WE KNOW IT. 1960-1965 FIAT 500 D THE D LOOKS VERY SIMILAR TO THE NUOVA, HOWEVER THERE WERE SOME DIFFERENCES SUCH AS THE SUNROOF DOES NOT FOLD BACK AS FAR), IT FEATURED AN ASHTRAY, PADDED SUN VISORS AND A WASHER PUMP. IT ALSO KEPT THE SUICIDE DOORS AND FEATURED A REAR BADGE 'FIAT 500 NUOVA' IN JOINED-UP WRITING AND RUBBER FLOOR MATS. 1960 - 1975 FIAT 500 GIARDINIERA (K) THIS IS THE ESTATE VERSION OF THE FIAT 500 FAMILY. THE ENGINE WAS LAID UNDER THE FLOOR IN THE BOOT AREA TO CREATE A FLAT LOADING SURFACE. THE ROOF ON THIS MODEL STRETCHED ALL THE WAY BACK AND DID NOT STOP ABOVE THE DRIVER AS IT DID ON OTHER MODELS OF THAT ERA. 1965 - 1968 FIAT 500 F IN MARCH 1965 SAW THE INTRODUCTION OF THE F. OUT WENT THE SUICIDE DOORS (DUE TO SAFETY) SADLY FOR THE MEN WHO THEN WENT ONTO COMPLAIN THEY COULDN'T LOOK AT GIRLS LEGS AS THEY GOT IN AND OUT OF THE CARS!). ALSO THE SILVER TRIM ON THE BONNET AND THE DOORS DISAPPEARED. THE REAR LIGHTS WHERE MORE SQUARE AND THE WINDSCREEN LARGER TO IMPROVE DRIVER VISIBILITY. THE SPEEDO WAS ALSO MODIFIED UP TO 120 KM/H SHOWING LESS NUMBERS THAN THE D (THE HORSEPOWER WAS 19). REAR BADGE 'NUOVA 500' IN JOINED-UP LETTERS AND RUBBER MATS. 1968 - 1972 FIAT 500 L OR LUSSO WHILE THE F AND L ARE MECHANICALLY VERY SIMILAR, THE KEY DIFFERENCES WERE THE BUMPERS. THE L HAS AN EXTRA CHROME NUDGE BAR AT THE FRONT AND TWO AT THE REAR, A MORE MODERNISED INTERIOR (SEATS AND PLEATED DOOR PANELS), A NEW BLACK STEERING WHEEL, AN ALMOST SQUARE INSTRUMENT PANEL WITH PLASTIC REVISED DASHBOARD, SPEEDOMETER UP TO 130 KM/H, RECLINING SEATS AND CARPETING. THE REAR BADGE FIAT 500 L WAS IN CAPITAL LETTERS SET ON A SILVER MOUNT. 1972 - 1975 FIAT 500 R OR RINNOVATA HAD A LARGER 594 CC ENGINE, OUT 23 HP (SIMILAR TO THE FIAT 126) AND A SYNCROMESH GEARBOX. THE UNIQUE CHROME NUDGE BARS, AS SEEN ON THE L MODELS DISAPPEARED AND FIAT MIXED AND MATCHED THE INTERIOR WITH THE F MODEL. 2004 TREPIÙNO CONCEPT INTRODUCED AT THE 74TH GENEVA MOTORSHOW, THIS CAR FEATURED A DISTINCTIVE RETRO-LOOK RESEMBLING THE ORIGINAL FIAT 500. THE TREPIUNO WAS DESIGNED AT FIAT STILE CENTRE BY ROBERTO GIOLITO. 2007 FIAT 500 FIAT PREVIEWED THE ALL NEW 500 IN MARCH 2007 - 50 YEARS AFTER THE FIRST FIAT 500 WAS PRESENTED. THE DESIGN OF THE NEW 2007 FIAT 500 IS BASED ON THE 2004 FIAT TREPIUNO CONCEPT. 2009 FIAT 500C A SOFTTOP VERSION, THE 500C WAS UNVEILED AT THE GENEVA MOTOR SHOW IN MARCH 2009. IT IS THE SAME SIZE AS THE BASIC MODEL, AND FEATURES THE SAME THREE ENGINE OPTIONS. IT ALSO HAD A STARTGSTOP SYSTEM. 2012 FIAT 500L THE 500L IS A MINI MPV INTRODUCED AS A MORE FAMILY ORIENTATED VERSION OF THE POPULAR FIAT 500, THE L STANDS FOR LARGE/LOUNGE. IT IS A SIGNIFICANT 594 MM (23.4 IN) LONGER AS WELL AS A LITTLE WIDER AND TALLER THAN THE FIAT 500. THE 500L CAN EVEN BE SPECIFIED WITH AN IN-VEHICLE ESPRESSO MACHINE WHICH MAKES THE 500L THE WORLD'S FIRST PRODUCTION CAR TO FEATURE SUCH A FACILITY. 2013 FIAT 500L TREKKING & 500L MPW AFTER THE SUCCESS OF THE 500L FIAT EXPANDED THE RANGE FURTHER WITH THE 500L TREKKING AND THE 500L MPW. THE 500L TREKKING IS 13MM HIGHER AND IS 11CM LONGER THAN THE 500L. ON THE OUTSIDE IT HAS LARGER 17 X 7-INCH ALUMINUM WHEELS AND UNIQUE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS. INSIDE THERE IS TWO-TONE NERO/MARRONE (BLACK/BROWN) INTERIOR UPHOLSTERY AND FIAT'S INTELLIGENT UCONNECT SYSTEM. WITH THE OPTION OF 7 SEATS THE 500MPW IS THE LARGEST 500L IN THE RANGE AT 203MM LONGER THAN THE 500L. MPW STANDS FOR 'MULTI PURPOSE WAGON'. 2014 UPDATED FIAT 500 THE 2014 FIAT 500 INCLUDES A REDESIGNED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CENTERED AROUND A SEVEN-INCH TFT DISPLAY DEVELOPED BY MAGNETTI MARELLI. A NEW 900CC TURBO TWO CYLINDER TWINAIR ENGINE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE RANGE WITH 105 HORSEPOWER AND 107 POUND-FEET OF TORQUE WHILE DELIVERING 67 MILES PER GALLON.
