AMERICA'S CRUMBLING INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE U.S. THERE ARE: 254,212,610 mCs REGISTERED PASSENGER VEHICLES (That's more than enough cars to put every person in Indonesia, the 4th largest country, behind the wheel of one.) TRAVELLING OVER: 62,257 MILES OF HIGHWAY WHICH 600,000 BRIDGES INCLUDES NEARLY: THOSE SUPPORTS MORE TRAFFIC THAN ORIGINALLY INTENDED, OR NEEDS SIGNIFICANT REPAIRS. That's a total of 150,000 unstable bridges. One-third of U.S. Roadways -----...- are in substandard condition. Each year, traffic jams caused by insufficient infrastructure waste a total of: A BILLION TIME HOURS OF COMMUTERS' & 3 BILLION ASOLINE GALLONS OF A decaying transportation system costs us more than: 78 BILLION ANNUALLY IN LOST TIME AND FUEL. The states of Montana, South Dakota, and Wyoming won't generate that amount in a year. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) graded the US on its transit systems: THEY RECEIVED A D+ But from 2011-2012, USAGE HAS the U.S. transit workforce INCREASED LOST 25% 20,000 between 1995 & 2005 EMPLOYEES TO JOB CUTS. NEARLY HALF OF U.S. H OUSEHOLDS DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO BUS OR RAIL TRANSIT And things aren't great below the ground, either: THERE 2.5 MILLION ARE: MILES OF PIPELINE ENOUGH PIPE TO CIRCLE THE GLOBE 100 TIMES. A third of those pipes are 40 years old or more, and they don't receive the care they need. From 1991 to 2011 there have been: 10,483 REPORTED ACCIDENTS PIPELINE OR EXPLOSIONS 397 deaths Costing $5,075,797,484 property damage 1,637 injuries in Aging sewer systems spill about: 1.26 TRILLION GALLONS OF UNTREATED SEWAGE Resulting in an estimated $50.6 billion in cleanup costs.
