Managing Network Technologies and Network Monitoring Infographic

Completed in Q3 of 2013, this survey explored management of network technologies and standards. Over 250 respondents from around the world provided insight into core network functionality including SNMP, *Flow technology, syslog management and preferred hardware vendors. Management of network technologies and standards OPSVIEW Summary Do you use SNMP Traps 68% of respondents were using SNMP traps, with 157 out of 257 respondents using V2 SNMP in your environment? Of the 257 respondents, only 88 were currently using*Flow protocols and of these Cisco NetFlow was the clear favorite, used by 81% of respondents 59% of respondents were monitoring syslogs with the majority of these using Open Source syslog monitoring tools Network stability was the main purpose behind using a monitoring system according to 77% of respondents. Only 2% were monitoring their network for mis-use 67% of respondents backed up their network configurations although no clear leader existed in which tools were preferred Most respondents surveyed (82%) were using some form of network monitoring and in many cases using a combination of monitoring tools Although the winning margin was slight, immediate alerting of network issues was rated as the most important function of network monitoring Yes 68% No 32% Do you backup your network device configurations? Nearly a third of respondents didn't back up their network configurations meaning if a device failed all their network configs would be lost and would need to be reconfigured If Yes, which versions of SNMP do you use? without a reference. Yes 67% No 33% V2 - 57% Which *Flow versions do you use in your environment? Only 34% of respondents were using *Flow technologies in their environments. Of these 72% were using NetFlow: IV3 - 24% 72% 18% 10% Netflow |sflow i jflow V1- 19% What is the preferred vendor for your network equipment?
