DOOLI The History of Cinematography COODO00O0CL Cinematography is the illusion of movement by the recording of subsequent rapid projection of many photographic pictures on a screen. Let's take a closer look at how cinematography has evolved over time. 1890 VIDEO PROJECTORS The first video projectors were invented in the 1890's and early 1900's. Movie projectors project frames from a reel of film, which creates a moving picture that's projected onto a screen. Inventors from all over the world created various versions of video projectors, but the most note inventions were those of the French Lumiere brothers and Thomas Edison. Some of the most prominent movie projectors were the cinematograph, kinescope and vitascope. By 1914, national film industries were formed in the U.S. as well as 1914 Europe. Films became longer and more focused on story-telling. 8mm Film 8mm film was introduced by Eastman Kodak in 1932. The new format allowed for a smaller size 1932 and enabled more filming and film run time. 8mm film was an upgrade from the standard 16mm film that had been around for nearly a decade. In the 1930s, most feature- length films were presented with synchronized sound and many were in full color. In the 1930s and 1940s, cinema was the most popular form of entertainment. In 1946, Britain had over 31 million visits to the cinema each week. 1946 In 1960, the average price of a movie ticket was 69-cents. 1970 Video Home System VHS, or Video Home System, is a large cassette format that was introduced by JVC and Panasonic in the 1970s. VHS became the most popular format for home use and video store rentals. Digital Video Disc DVDS, or digital video discs, were introduced by Philips, Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic in 1995. They offer higher storage capacities than VHS tapes and can be played in various types of players. 1995 DVD 2006 Blu-Ray Blu-ray discs became globally available in 2006, and were jointly developed by the Blue- ray Disc Association. This format can record, rewrite and playback high-definition video, as well as store large vanities of data. Blu-rays have over 5 times the storage capacity of traditional DVDS.
