Does the location of your cloud data really matter? The whole idea behind the "cloud" is being able to access your data from anywhere. You would think that the location of your data wouldn't really matter. We asked 144 people what they thought and here are their answers. 53%: The local laws protect me. "Yes, because then it's subject to Canadian law." "Seems safer, at least the legal recourse is local." "Yes, because our country values personal privacy" 22%: Data proximity. "Keeps everything close at all times." "Yes. Because then I know where it is!" "Yes because I want my data to be as secure and close to home as possible." 17%: There are other reasons.. 59% "It's important in case my computers break." "Yes because if I lose anything important, Thave backup." "yes, because if my computer breaks I can always have my data safe in Cloud." say yes 5%: It supports the local economy.. "Yes, support Canada." "Seems like it would help local economy and jobs." "I would prefer that the data center be local for economic reasons." 3%: It's important. There is no specific reason.. This group of people shared that having cloud services in their country is important but did not share a reason why. 13%: Security is all that matters... "As long as its safe, location doesn't matter." "No. I don't mind where it is stored as long as it is stored securely." "Not particularly. as long as it's secure, physical location is irrelevant." 32%: Access is all that matters. "Not really - data is data no matter where it's stored."t "Not really. The internet makes country specific things not as important." "No, as long as I can get at it." 25% say no 23%: There are other reasons... "No. I don't fully understand cloud storage." "No, because it's just a waste of time." "No, I don't store anything importance in the cloud." 32%: It's not important. There is no specific reason.. This group of people shared that having cloud services in their country is not important but did not share a reason why. 67%:I don't use the cloud.. "I don't need it." "I don't use it." "I don't store data." 16% don't know 33%:I don't know what the cloud is... "I don't know what cloud data is." "I don't understand it." "I have no idea what you are talking about." About the data.
