What's coming next for Google Analytics...? Highlights from the Google Analytics summit October 2012 Having been a part of growing the GA Team in the early years, it always feels a little strange to go to these summits as an outsider. Its a mixture of pride of what we started, and missing being on the inside track. That said, these events are extremely well organised and a pleasure to attend. Hats off to Paul Muret and his team. These are my key take aways of the announcements and what they mean for you. Brian Cifton Universal Analytics This is the BIG announcement and represents a paradigm shift for the industry. It's set to become the next generation of the measurement platform with a new protocol, userID sessionisation, custom dimension and dimension widening. What this means for YOU: A simpler install - only 1 cookie and an 80% lighter js file; Easy tie-in with your CRM system; Additional custom variables (20 for free and 200 for Premium clients). On-line & Off-line Tracking What this means for YOU: Google Analytics is not going to be just website analytics anymore. For example, imagine displaying visitor specific coupons that your website visitors take to your off-line stores. You can then tie store transactions back to their website visit. In addition, you will be able to track a "visitor" with a bar-code scanner, QR code, RFI chip, or any other non-identifiable scanner. Imagine tracking the venue activity at the London Olympics for example. Cool stuff...! Attribution Modelling - now available for free 1... What this means for YOU: An important feature for marketers. Attribution modelling allows you to understand the importance of your different marketing channels. Think of it as Multi-Channel Funnel reports on steroids! For example, if a visitor comes to your site 5 different times with 5 different referrers, assign a proportion of your transaction and/or goal revenue to each one. Use built-in models or create your own. 0.85 Data Import $$ affiliate cost-29 92 € 543 gender-male age=25-34 What this means for YOU: So far, AdWords and AdSense cost data has been automatically imported for you. Now any cost data can be imported e.g. Bing ppc, email cost data, affiliates, social media costs, etc. In fact, anything up to 50 million rows...! Improved User Interface What this means for YOU: E Find your data faster and more efficiently. More intuitive usage. For example, "visitor" based reports (rather than session based) providing Recency, Frequency and Monetary Value – including customer lifetime value (LTV) reports.
