CTA: ConnectSCC Mobile Phone Survey

Community Technology Alliance CONNECTSCC MOBILE PHONE SURVEY 342 53.5% 46.8% 42.7% 21.3% 79.2% 67% Through ConnectSCC project, we research sustainable mobile telecommunications models to serve the homeless population. The ultimate goal of this unique project, funded by The Health Trust, is to apply Disruptive Innovation theory to the telecommunications market. Due to the lack of information about mobile phone usage by the homeless, we conducted a comprehensive survey of the homeless and the extremely low-income households in Santa Clara County, on consumption habits, affordability, usage a the results of this incorporate reliable voice, text and Internet data access at a below-market price point. We are also working in partnership with the Frugal Innovation Lab at Santa Clara University to design, test, and market a broadcast text messaging service for homeless individuals to receive up-to-date information on vital local foods, shelters and employment resources. Based on survey, we are identify ing potential service solutions that would EDUCATION 498 31.3% 64.7% 51.8% 36.3% THE SIZE OF THE SAMPLE TOOK BY THE SURVEY FROM A POPULATION OF 48132 SPECIAL NEEDS PEOPLE IN THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY GETTING SOCIAL SERVICES FROM OCT TO NOV 2012 156 OUT OF THE 498 RESPONDENTS IN THE SURVEY DO NOT OWN A MOBILE PHONE OF THE 156 PEOPLE WHO DO NOT OWN MOBILE PHONES SAY THEY CANNOT AFFORD PHONES THAT ARE MALES THAT ARE HOMELESS THAT ARE 70 JOB SEEKERS THAT HAVE NO INCOME WITH AGE 32 OR OLDER WITH GED+ EDUCATION 156 OF THE 342 PHONE OWNERS PAY FOR PHONE SERVICES WITH THEIR OWN INCOME 66% 62.8% 56.4% 40.4% 74.4% 55.8% NO PHONES OF THE 342 PHONE OWNERS DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO INTERNET DATA ON PHONES
