Email Marketing in the Eyes of Teens

WHAT DO TEENS THINK OF EMAIL? What is the future of email? Will it continue as a ubiquitous form of communication, or will it fade away in favor of Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and other newer communication platforms? We decided to get away from the rhetoric around email marketing and social media and ask the next generation what they think. 167 students wrote essays on the topic and sent them to us. After reading and analyzing the essays, here's what we found they think about email and social media. WHAT WE ASKED Email is a primary means of communications for over one billion people around the world. However, it has been suggested that younger generations may eschew email in favor of other messaging technologies. Do you agree with that suggestion? Discuss, drawing on your experiences with email and other messaging technologies. WHAT THEY SAID 44% 15% 41% Believe email will live on. Think email is dead/dying. Are unsure of email's future. SO WHY DO TEENS FEEL THAT WAY? WE REVIEWED ALL ESSAYS AND FOUND THE FOLLOWING TRENDS: 57% State that email is popular in business. 6% Mention that an email address is required to access many sites. 14% Say that email is a "grown up" thing. 21% Believe they will use email more in the future. f 10% Think email is a part of communication evolution. 20% Say email and social media complement each other. 14% Compare email to postal. 5% already consider postal dead. 29% Make the point that email is "formal." 23% Think email can't be accessed by mobile devices.
