the AMERICAN JOBS ACT REBUILDING AMERICA'S TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM 66 We've got roads and bridges across this country that need rebuilding. We've got private companies with the equipment and the manpower to do the building. We've got more than 1 million unemployed construction workers ready to get dirty right now. There is work to be done and there are workers ready to do it. Labor is on board. Business is on board. We just need Congress to get on board. Let's put America back to work. 22 - President Barack Obama, Labor Day 2011 The American Jobs Act includes a $50 billion immediate investment in construction jobs rebuilding America's roadways, railways, transit systems, and airports. $27 BILLION in investments to make our nation's highway systems more efficient and safer for passenger and commercial transportation, including upgrades on 150,000 miles of road $9 BILLION in investments to repair our nation's bus and o o rail transit systems, including laying/maintaining 4,000 miles of train tracks $5 BILLION for the TIGER and TIFIA programs, which target competitive dollars to fund innovative transportation programs $4 BILLION to develop high-speed rail corridors $2 BILLION in funding to improve Amtrak's intercity passenger rail service, through upgrades of its equipment, cars and stations $2 BILLION in investments through airport improvement grants to improve safety, add capacity, modernize airport infrastructure across the country and restore 150 miles of runways $1 BILLION to support NextGen Air Traffic Modernization efforts, which will employ technology to make the National Airspace System safer and reduce travel time and delays whitehouse.gov
