When Toys Become Real

WHEN TOYS BECOME REAL TO A CHILD, EVERY TOY IS REAL. An oction figure has super strength, o baby doll needs a fresh bottle ond a stock of building blocks is a towering skyscroper. But for some of the most tolented car builders across the country, bringing toys to life has taken on a whole new meaning. These Hot Wheels lovers have taken the miniature hot rods from the orange plastic track to the showroom, paying close attention to even the smallest details. Check out how these incredible builds came to life: TWIN MILL BULT BY 1996 HOT RODS BY BOYD 2 Supercharged GM 502 Big Blocks 4 Edelbrock 4-Barrel Carburetors 1,400 Horsepower 1957 BEL AIR "NO-NOMAD" WAGON COMPLETED Mw 2005 BRUCE SCHULTZ DETANS Designed to look like the Hot Wheels 1957 Nomad, but not technically a Nomad. This flame-painted beauty made its debut at the 2005 SEMA show. 2011 REBUILD OF A 1968 CHEVROLET CAMARO COPLETED IN HOT WHEELS & GENERAL MOTORS DESIGN STUDIO 2011 DETARS The General Motors Design Studio team went through an extensive trial-and-error paint job process before settling on an innovative green tint over a chrome paint job, giving the car a vibrant, eye-catching look. THE BONE SHAKER COMPLETED IN BUNT BY 2011 PICTURE CAR WAREHOUSE CLAIM TO FAME With its signature skull on the grill and flame paint job, this hot rod is one of the meanest-looking cars hot wheels has ever produced. FUN FACT Original designer Larry Wood surely never anticipated that his toy car would be made into a real car-he actually threw his initial sketch in the trash. 1957 EDELBROCK BEL AIR COMPLETER N 2011 OHIO TECHNICAL COLLEGE SPECS LS3 Engine 600 Horsepower Edelbrock Supercharger WHEN OHIO TECHNICAL COLLEGE FOUND THIS 1957 EDELBROCK CHEVROLET BEL AIR, it was little more than a hunk of metal with tires. The car hod rust, body damage, no trim and a non-existent interior. But OTC had a vision, and before long, students at the college had a very special project on their hands. After completing metalwork and fabrication on the cor, the students fittedit with an LS3 engine, complete with an Edelbrock supercharger - that combination results in an impressive 600 horsepower output. The cor made its debut at the 2010 SEMA show. Upon its return from the show, the car was painted and finished off in 2011 with the remaining mechanical components. Students also completed the interior of the car, made a few final mechanical tweaks and added SPECIAL TY GRAPHICS TO MAKE THE CAR LOOK JUST LIKE ITS HOT WHEELS INSPIRATION. As a thank you to the man who inspired the project, OTC gave the finished product to Vic Edelbrock Jr., son of Edelbrock founder Vic Edelbrock. The Edelbrock Corporation, after all, provided funding for the project and gave students at Ohio Technical College the experience of a lifetime. 1OHIO TECHNICAL A COLLEGE SOURCES WHW.OHIOTECHEDU
