St. Palaiok's Day Celebrated first by the Irish in Europe as early as the ninth century, Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated worldwide today. But did you know, Christians celebrated this special holiday as a feast day in the seventeenth century, or St. Patrick's Day commemorates when Christianity came into Ireland? Officially celebrated annually on March 17th, it also happens to be death date of a famous patron Saint of Ireland. Let's look at various fun facts and figures associated with this holiday, including public parades and festive celebrations: Color • Legends have it that Saint Patrick used a green three leaved shamrock to explain holy trinity to the Irish. Since then, green is deeply associated with St. Patrick's Day. Some people believe that as green is one of the colors of Irish flag, it became popular for Saint Patrick's Day as well. Additionally, the same color was used in various Irish IRELAND revolutionary groups and it also represents the lush greenery of the country. Tourism As a National holiday in Ireland, it is cel- ebrated with excitement, pomp and parade show. This year, four-day long celebration will be held and a Festival Parade will start from Dublin and finish just past Saint Patrick's Cathedral. Other countries celebrate it with great enthusiasm in the Irish spirit. Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada have St. Patrick's Day as a National Holiday as well. St. Patrick's Day parade in Sydney is known to be the largest within Southern Hemisphere. The parade in New York City has become largest St. Patrick's Day parade in the world recently, and has around 150,000 participants marching up 5th Avenue in Manhattan. HSBC Famous People Kate Middleton and Prince Williams jointly celebrated Saint Patrick's Day in 2014. In fact, Prince wore a military uniform and Kate was dressed in an Emerald green Hobbs coat. Likewise, our beloved Hollywood celebrities also celebrate the holiday in green. Molly Sims fondly posted her picture with green colored sham- rock cupcakes. It is interesting to know that Hollywood is flooded with Irish celebrities, in- cluding Chris O’Dowd, Olivia Wilde, Megan Fox and Michael Fassbender, just to name a few.
