Gurupurav is one of the most important festivals of Sikhs. This purav falls on the full moon which shines during the month which is exactly opposite the month of his recorded birth date. Gurupurav is the birth ceremony of Guru Nanak Dev ji who was the first guru of Sikhs and was born on April 14, 1969 A.D. in Rai-Bhoi-di, Talwandi , Pakistan. Gurupurav is also known as Guru Nanak Gurpurav and Guru Nanak's Prakash Utsav. Celebration of Gurpurav starts before two days form the actual date. 'Akhand Path' is 48 hours continue reading of Guru Granth Sahib Ji performed. Guru Nanak Jayanti marks the culmination of the Prabhat Pheris. On the day before birthday processions are held. “Five armed guards” who are named “Panj Pyare”, head the procession by holding the Nishan Sahib (the Sikh Flag orange colored).
