Elderly Care In The UK The facts and figures. Aged 65+ in the UK. 11.4 MIllion There are an estimated 11.4 million elderly people over the age of 65, living in the UK. Aged 50+ in the UK. 23.2 Million There are over 23.2 million people aged 50 years and over, nearly a third of the total UK population. Aged 50+ (27%) Other ages (73%) Aged 80+ in the UK. Million There are also around 3 million people aged 80 or over living in the UK Comparison There are now more people in the UK aged 60 and above than there are under 18. By 2086, about one in three people in the UK will be over 60 The population over 75 is projected to double in the next 30 years Aged 65+ live alone. 3.5 Million It is estimated that around 3.5 million people in the UK live alone. Aged 75+ live alone. 2 Million It is estimated that around 2 million people aged 75+ live alone. 1.5 million of these are women. Grandparents in the UK. 14 Million It is estimated that there are 14 million grandparents, a mere 1.5 million of whom are under 50 How would you feel? Receiving community- based care. 417,910 Реople In England, 417,910 people aged 65+ received community-based care and support at home in 2012/13. Receiving receiving day- care and meals. 66,630 Реople During the same timeframe, 44,015 older people received day care and 22,615 received meals, only half of the number receiving these the previous year. Not receive any formal support. 900,000 Реople Of the 2.8 million older people with care related needs, 900,000 currently do not receive any formal support (people aged 65- 89 in England).
