THE THEN & NOW OF ICONIC TRAINERS Adidas Originals: STAN SMITH 1965 Originally produced for French tennis player Robert Halliet. In 1965, American tennis pro Stan Smith came to the attention of adidas and subsequently replaced Halliet's name on the shoe. The rest they say is history and the Stan Smith silhouette has gone onto become one of the best selling signature shoes of all time. 2013 In 2013, rumours of a one-to-one re-issue were finally put to bed when adidas released the Stan Smith in all it's original glory. Adidas Originals: GAZELLE 1968 Much speculation as to it's original purpose, however the general consensus is that the gazelle intended to be a athletic training shoe 2015 The iconic Gazelle continues to be as popular with it's simple, streamlined design and classic colour-ways. it's ever been Converse: ALL STARS 1917 Historically one of the most important sneakers in popular culture. Launched in 1917, but took on the Chuck Taylor name from 1923. 2015 The All-Star's are now produced in a huge variety of colours and materials. Nike: AIR FORCE 1 1982 Originally released in 1982 and took inspiration from hiking shoes. As well as being Nike's most technologically advanced basketball shoe, the Air Force 1 became the first shoe to feature a full-length Nike Air Sole unit. 2015 The Air Force 1 has gone on to be one of Nike's most recognisable basketball silhouettes and became extremely popular amongst the hip-hop scene with limited edition and collaborative iterations. Puma: STATE 1968 The Puma State was originally worn on the basketball courts and over time became a worldwide classic worn by skaters, football casuals and B-boys 2015 Still standing the test of time today and like many classic silhouettes have been open to special collaborations and limited editions.
