Focus on Health Volunteer Impacts Humble lot that they are, Palms Volunteers often underestimate the impact they have in the field, instead focussing on how much they learned or gained during their placement. Carmel developed over 24 simple documents, including: | Health Clinic Procedure Manual | HIV/AIDS Policy and Register Emergency Manual Carmel Lawry recently finished as a volunteer nurse at Holy Family Care Centre in Ofcolaco, South Africa and we thought it would be good to reflect on what one volunteer can contribute in 12 months.* Weight/Height Register Clinic Education Program First Aid and Clinical Procedures Stock Ordering System Infection Control Procedures Staff Handbook Carmel worked very closely with Olga (pictured at top right) and Sr Helen, providing on-the-job training to ensure the children of Holy Family received the best medical care possible and better understand how to stay healthy. Medication Management Staff Orientation Process These documents ensure staff understand their roles and responsibilities and the work can continue even with staff changes. Carmel also assisted Holy Family with successful funding applications worth almost $30,000. Carmel provided health services, including health education for 70 children at Holy Family, 60% of whom were girls.
