Flooded Basement Prevention For Spring

FLOODED BASEMENT PREVENTION 1) Gutters & Downspouts Make sure your gutters and downspouts are cleared of any debris & also check to make sure that they're positioned away from the foundation of your home. 2) Sump Pump If your sump-pump is below-grade, then you will want to check for debris. If you have a portable pump, then you will want to position it in the lowest part of the basement and make sure that it is connected to a power source. 3) Foundation Cracks Inspect your basement walls for cracks in the foundation. If you see any, fill them with an epoxy substance. If the problem is extensive, it would be in your best interest to contact a professional. ероху 4) Sewer & Septic System If you haven't had your sewer or septic system looked at in a while, then it would be a good idea to have it inspected and looked at by a professional. When it rains for a long period of time, the sewer and septic system can become problematic. 5) Window Well Covers If your basement windows are below-grade, consider installing window well covers. They will keep out bugs, rain, and leaves while still letting in sunlight. 6) Generators It is in your best interest to purchase a generator if you do not already have one. Remember, a sump pump only works if it has a power source! 7) Insurance Go over your insurance policy and make sure that you are satisfied with your coverage. Most standard homeowner's policies do not cover flood damage, so it would be smart to purchase flood insurance if you do not have it already. http://www.bobvila.com/ http://www.floodedbasementcleanup.org
