A natural (or man made) disaster rarely gives you a warning before turning everything you know and love upside down, leaving you with very little to protect you against its elements. Thats why it pays to take a page out of the Macgyver manual of survival and learn these handy tricks that will help you make the best out of the even the wórst of situations. TOILET PAPER HEATER WHAT YOU'LL NEED ...................................... Toilet Paper Roll Rubbing Alcohol Coffee Can Knead the toilet paper to loosen and remove the cardboard tube in center, and then collapse the roll so there is no space in the center. 3 Light the paper after it soaks up the alcohol. When the alcohol is used up the paper will start to turn brown. 2 4 You can blow out the fire, re-soak the paper and light it again. Put the roll inside the coffee can and pour the alcohol on it. NON-ELECTRIC REFRIGERATOR WHAT YOU'LL NEED Small & Large Pot Sand Washcloth 1 Take the smaller pot and put it inside the larger pot. 3 As the water evaporates from the sand, it pulls cooling the inner pot. heat out with it, 2 Fill the space in between them full with wet sand, and cover the top with a wet washcloth. 4 Place your food inside the small pot to store! Its a natural way to keep food from perishing for up to three weeks. SIMPLE WATER PURIFIER WHAT YOULL NEED A Pebble or Marble Small & Large Bowl Plastic Shrink-Wrap 3 Now, place the bowl in the sunlight. The Make sure the top of your small bowl is lower than the big bowl and place the small bowl inside. Make sure the liquid stays outside of your small bowl. heat will cause water molecules on the surface to evaporate and escape inside. Loosely cover the top of the large bowl with a single piece of plastic wrap and seal the edges. Place a pebble in the center and adjust the wrap so that there is a dip directly in the middle. Drops encounter a cooler surface since the air outside the bowl is not as warm. This causes them to form droplets on the plastic wrap and gravity pulls them to the lowest part of the plastic, creating fresh and drinkable water. MILK JUG LAMP SHORTENING CANDLE WHAT YOU'LL NEED WHAT YOULL NEED Shortening Milk Jug Duct Tape Vegetable Shortening Piece of String Flashlight Matches Shortening If the power goes out and you need a good light source, take a flashlight and use duct tape to strap a gallon milk jug full of water. It lights up the entire jug and glows like lamp. 1 In place of a candle, stick a piece of string or twine in a tub of vegetable shortening and it will burn for weeks. MINT TIN STOVE BATTERY CONVERTER WHAT YOU'LL NEED WHAT YOULL NEED Mint Tin Miracle-Gro Aluminum Screen Available Batteries Aluminum Foil Take an empty mint tin, like an Altoid box, and fill with Miracle Gro. Cut an aluminum screen to fit over the top. 1 If your flashlight only takes AA batteries and all you have are AAAS, wrap up a ball of foil and stuff it into your device where the battery's negative terminal connects. 2 Just a couple of tablespoons of Miracle-Gro burns for 10 minutes and 2 If you have enough foil to fill in the gap, your device will turn on. This works as a great temporary solution for any situation where you have the wrong size batteries. can bring about a quart of water to a boil.
