bottlerocket A COLLEGE STUDENT'S GUIDE TO FINDING MENTORS PRESENTS #1. KNOW YOUR GOAL Take a moment to write it down. Have you thought it through? s it worth doing? # 2. MAKE A PLAN #3. HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER Is there something you can do for them? Do they need interns? Are they interested in your project, in you as a person, or in your demographic? Do you know how long will it take? Do you know the process? Now is a good time to identify which things a mentor can help you with. # 4. FIND THE RICHT MENTORS Know what you are looking for. Their skills are important but so are other factors. Do you know where to find people with the right skills? MENTORS #5. MAKE CONNECTIONS What have you got to lose? Come right to the point and try to be as brief as possible. Be open, genuine and honest. #6. SOLICIT ADVICE Take your meetings seriously. Ask about their experience and listen to what they say to you. Take notes, and end every meeting with a summary. #7. FOLLOW UP You should always follow up with your mentors. It is a valuable professional skill and it keeps you focused.. #8. KARMA Don't see your mentors as a means to an end. This makes you look fake, and no one likes a fake.
