This set of information visualizations and illustrations describes housing trends in the City of Milwaukie, Oregon from the perspective of residents. They were used by city planners and the community ...
to discuss opportunities and challenges for the City's growth. The trends and insights are described using a variety of tools—in order to encourage both empathetic and analytic responses from the community—including photographs, resident quotes, statistical graphics and illustrations. Although the method changes, the graphic language maintains consistency through a unified set of colors and standards. One area of special focus was on creating a close relationship between the information graphics and the illustrations: the use of pictograms in the statistical displays enables the people and houses to emerge from the data-scape into the illustrations.
