Evolution of the bra

EVOLUTION BRA 2500 BC The first recorded human invention that remotely re- sembles a bra-like contraption is thought to date back two and a half millennium. Minoan women, who lived on the isle of Crete, used to wear gar- ments that would lift the bare breast out of thei clothing. 450 BC - 285 AD In this period, in Rome and in Greece, women used to use a band strapped around their breasts in order to make their bust size smaller. At that time, as you will agree, standards of beauty were different. KEEP CALM AND WEAR BRA 1859 This year marks the first ever bra prototype that was made and patented by Henry Lesher, and, believe or not, this design is not that much different from the modern bra designs that women wear. 1907 In the 20th century, a lot of things happened to bra designs, and 1907 was the year when the famous Vogue magazine used the word "brassiere" for the first time. In 1911, this word appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary. 1920s This decade is important in the evolution of the bra, because during this decade the bra with discernible cups was invented. It was made by a company called Maidenform, which was founded by Ida Rosenthal and her husband William, in collaboration with Enid Bissett. 1930s The first padded bra was invented by D.J. Ken- nedy after one swedish athlete hurt herself at the 1928 olympics in Norway. She hurt her breasts in the breast with her knee while running in the 400m causing her terrible pain. 1963 Wonderbra is invented in 1963 by Canadian designer Louse Poirier. This piece of info can be found in the Guiness Book of Re- cords as the "most extravagant and expensive item of underwear ever manufactured". 2009 This year, Lisca, a company from Slovenia, cre- ated the Smart Memory Bra.
