Zithromax

Zithromax May 2012: The New England Journal of Medicine published a study conducted by Vanderbilt University. The gathered statistics on several antibiotics, including Zithromax, over a 14-year period. The study determined that for every 1 Million courses of Zithromax there was an average of 85 Deaths. This number was significantly higher than other antibiotics and patients receiving non-antibiotic treatment. Zithromax (Azithromycin), also known as Z-Pak, is an antibiotic used to treat common infections like bronchitis, ear infection, pneumonia, and strep throat. In 1991, the FDA approved Zithromax for sale on the market by Pfizer. Since its introduction to the market, this popular antibiotic has made Pfizer millions of dollars. Zithromax earned $435 million in 2012, $453 million in 2011, and $415 million in 2010. However, increased use of the drug has also lead to increased numbers of adverse event reports, by 2012 the FDA received 21,417 such reports regarding Zithromax.
