Top Factors Influencing Caffeine Sensitivity

Factors influencing CAFFEINE SENSITIVIEY The world's drug of choice is caffeine. Here are some major factors that influence some people's caffeine sensitivity more than others. THE WORLD'S MOST POPULAR BEVERAGE Coffee is known as the world's most popular beverage, and the main ingredient in it is caffeine. Caffeine is also the main ingredient in most of the energy drinks we see on grocery shelves. Caffeine is found in most sodas, cocoa, chocolate, power bars, even some pain medications. As the world becomes more and more over-caffeinated, the question is how much caffeine is too much? The answer to that is that it depends on the caffeine sensitivity of the individual to the drug. If you have any amount of caffeine sensitivity, it can disrupt your sleep and give you the jitters, making you nervous, apprehensive or jumpy. Caffeine can also make stomach problems worse and give you diarrhea and stomach pain. According to some studies, too much caffeine can also lead to decreased bone density, high blood pressure and high blood sugar. There are benefits On the other hand, there are numerous studies that have shown numerous benefits to consuming caffeine. It can improve your concentration, boost memory, and possibly lower your risk of liver cancer or Alzheimer's disease. Other benefits of caffeine are being discovered on a regular basis. Caffeine sensitivity is basically determined by our body and how efficient it is in processing and metabolizing the drug. Each person is different. Some people are more sensitive than others and can't even drink a soda without having a serious reaction. Others can drink coffee and then, unexpectedly, fall fast asleep. According to the experts, there are three different levels of caffeine sensitivity; hypersensitive, normal and hyposensitive: Hypersensitivity to caffeine People who are hypersensitive to caffeine have high caffeine sensitivity and will have an almost immediate reaction to even small amounts of the drug. Even when they consume amounts of less than 100 mg, people who are hypersensitive to caffeine can begin to experience overdose symptoms. Normal Sensitivity to Caffeine People who have between 200-400mg of caffeine daily, the equivalent of two to four cups of coffee, have normal caffeine sensitivity and should suffer no adverse reactions. These people will usually have no difficulty sleeping at night if their caffeine is consumed earlier in the day and not after 2 pm in the afternoon. Most people fall into this middle category. When recommended daily doses are listed on products containing caffeine, this is the group that the recommended dosage has usually been established for. Hyposensitivity to Caffeine Around 10% of the human population is considered hyposensitive to caffeine. These people have low caffeine sensitivity and can process caffeine so efficiently that they can consume large doses of the drug, over 500mg, without noticing any effects. Their caffeine sensitivity is much lower than average and they can usually consume products containing caffeine anytime during the day, even before bedtime, and still have no trouble getting a good night's sleep. As a result, these people will usually consume large doses of caffeine in order to enjoy the benefits of caffeine. Major factors influencing caffeine sensitivity: Genetics When caffeine enters our system, it's metabolized by our liver using a special enzyme in our bodies. Some people genetically produce large amounts of the enzyme while others produce only a small amount, with the average falling in the middle. Depending on how much of the enzyme is produced, one person may feel almost no effect from several cups of coffee while another may become jittery from half a cup. Not consuming enough It seems that people who don't consume caffeine on a regular basis or in moderate amounts have a tendency to feel its negative effects a lot more strongly than people who've developed a tolerance for the drug. Studies indicate that consistently consuming caffeine tells the brain to decrease production of the mood-enhancing hormone norepinephrine, which leaves the body craving for caffeine to fill the void. 3 Having a slower metabolism People who produce smaller quantities of an enzyme in the liver also affects how strong an effect caffeine will have on the body. The quantity of the enzyme each person has will vary from person to person, and those who produce less of it will take longer for caffeine to leave the body making its effects more prolonged and intense. On the other hand, people with a larger amount of these enzymes will need to consume more caffeine in order to maintain its desired effects. Anxiety disorders Caffeine can also have a more pronounced effect if you are dealing with an anxiety disorder each day. Caffeine is known as the world's most widely used mood-altering drug and because of its psychoactive nature, it can provoke panic disorders and anxiety. It can also cause insomnia in people who are susceptible to panic attacks. 5 Birth control pills If you're a woman taking oral contraceptives, you'l| likely metabolize caffeine at a third of the normal rate. This leaves you considerably more sensitive to caffeine's side effects. In general, when caffeine is excreted from the body, it takes with it a certain amount of important minerals including potassium, calcium and zinc. According to one study, women taking the pill lost less of these minerals because the active component in caffeine's metabolism was limited by the steroids in the birth control pills. Even though less nutrients were lost, caffeine remained in the body for a longer time. Your other drugs Certain asthma-relief drugs, antibiotics and echinacea will increase the side effects of caffeine. Antibiotics and echinacea allow caffeine to circulate throughout the body for a longer period of time and in higher amounts. The asthma-relief drug theophylline has side effects similar to caffeine and when combined with it can produce even more unpleasant side-effects. If you happen to have any amount of caffeine sensitivity, you should know your limits and be extremely careful not to exceed them. Even though sprayable.co • blog.sprayable.co
