This technique overcomes any problems due to blocked Fallopian Tubes Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) Sperm are injected into eggs using a sophisticated microscope. This technique overcomes any problems due to poor sperm function or abnormalities which prevent the sperm from fertilising the egg. Intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI) Sperm are injected into eggs using a sophisticated microscope. In this technique the higher magnification of the microscope makes it easier to select normal looking sperm. This overcomes any problems when there is an exceptionally high number of abnormal sperm in a sample. Preimplantation genetic Diagnosis (PGD) This technique is used when one or both partners have a known genetic disorder which causes abnormal development and possible miscarriage. A few cells are removed from the embryo and tested for the disease. Only embryos without the disease are transferred. Assisted Hatching Embryos at the blastocyst stage of development naturally hatch out of the Zona Pellucida surrounding the embryo. Sometimes the embryo needs help with hatching because the zona is t0o thick or hard. In these cases, the embryologist will assist with the hatching by using a laser to drill a small hole in the Zona to allow the embryo to escape. www.newlife-ivf.co.uk
