A few cells are removed from the embryo and tested for the disease. Only embryos without the disease are transferred. Assisted Hatching Embryos at the blastocyst stage of development naturally hatch out of the Zona Pellucida surrounding the embryo. Sometimes the embryo needs help with hatching because the zona is t0o thick or hard.
