#vaccineswork REACHING EVERY LAST CHILD Global efforts to vaccinate infants against life-threatening diseases reached a record high in 2011, effectively immunizing an estimated 83 per cent of infants with three doses of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine. But one out of every five infants did not receive this vital vaccine, leaving them exposed to potential disability or premature death. UNICEF and its partners are responding to this challenge to ensure that every last child is successfully immunized. IN 2011 alone, 1.5 MILLION The unreached child does not receive the three doses of vaccine (DTP3) that can save his or her life. CHILDREN UNDER FIVE DIED from diseases preventable by currently recommended OFRE SOUTH SDAN EWOK OF ALL VACCINES MEASLES 430 XO STOP Measles continues to kill about 430 people each day, mostly children under the age of 5, primarily in Africa and Asia. Maternal and neonatal TETANUS persist as a public health challenge in 30 countries, mainly in Africa and Asia. UNICEF's ROLE The Convention on the Rights of the Child states that ALL CHILDREN must have EQUAL ACCESS to adequate HEALTH CARE.
