Propecia and Proscar Side Effects

1996 2003 Propecia and Proscar The FDA had received 214 reports of breast growth in men taking finasteride between June 1992 and February 1995. The 18,882 patient PCPT study found that the benefits of finasteride "must be weighed against sexual side effects and the increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer." 214 Breast Growth Reports of A 3047 patient study found that the rate of male breast cancer in patients using Propecia and Proscar (finasteride) is once-daily pill used to treat male pattern baldness. The FDA approved Propecia in 1997 and Proscar was approved in 1992. These drugs work by preventing testosterone from converting to dihydrotestorone (DHT). DHT contributes to male pattern baldness and prostate growth. In recent years, Propecia and Proscar have been linked to sexual side effects, high-grade prostate cancer, and male breast cancer. A 22-year-old man, committed suicide 6 months after discontinuing Propecia. Several studies found that erectile dysfunction occurred in 8% of finasteride patients. Sexual Side Effects Still Experience Sexual Side Effects 6 Years 20% after they stopped using Finasteride 2011 2012 A study of 71 patients who experienced effects finasteride, 20% still experienced sexual side effects more than 6 years after they stopped using finasteride. The FDA investigated 421 adverse event reports for Propecia and 199 adverse event reports for Proscar. The agency found 59 cases where sexual side effects persisted for three months following discontinuation.
