The Food Truck Survival Guide

BURGERS: BARBECUE: TACOS PIZZA ASIAN DESSERTS Suggest: Everything but in moderation. Consider lowerfat options like sorbet & frozen yogurt. If you want the real deal, get a kid's size, a single scoop, or share a larger serving with a friend (or two). Swap: Beef for turkey or veggie-both have less saturated fat Swap: Pulled pork/beef brisket for chicken Swap: White rice for brown rice Swap: Beef for chicken or meatless taco and tortilla shell bowl for crunchy tortilla strips on a salad instead. Split it: Check out the serving size. A "personal pizza's can feed easily 2-3 people- split one with a friend! Suggest: Green beans, salad and corn sides instead of Texas toast, mac 'n' cheese, and creamy slow. Request: Sauce on the side or ask the chef to go easy on the sauce if mixed in. The sauces on many popular dishes are often high in sodium and fat. Add: Extra lettuce and tomato; both filling and probably free. Add: Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, fajita veggies, beans, salsa, or guacamole. Suggest: Thin crust pizza with less cheese. Add: Veggies like broccoli and sun-dried tomatoes. Request: Fruit filling at the crepe truck- it can be just as sweet ond more nutritious. Add: Extra veggies, such as beef and broccoli. Go easy: On cheese, sour cream, and nachos. Suggest: The taco salad. Try brown rice or a rice & beans side dish. Save it: Take home half of a large muffin or cupcake for another day's treat.
