Pink initiative's Breast Cancer by the NUMBERS 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. IN THE UNITED STATES One woman is diagnosed 03 00 with breast cancer every three minutes. 1300 One woman will die from breast cancer every thirteen minutes. Breast cancer is second only to lung cancer in cancer deaths among women. In 2011, an estimated , 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer was diagnosed among women, 57,650 as well as an estimated additional cases of in situ breast cancer. An estimated 40,000 women and 400 men are expected to die from breast cancer in 2012. The biggest risk factors for breast cancer are being a woman & growing older. The average age of diagnosis is 61. Only 51.2% of women 40 and older in the U.S. reported having a mammogram in the last year. There are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors alive in the U.S. today. sources: 1.
