Troubled Waters

TROUBLED WATERS Story by: Spencer Hunt Infographic by: Rachel Keaveny Polluted Rivers & Creeks Waterways- everyday we drive over them, walk by them, and run along them. But, little do many Ohioans know that several of these waterways in the Buckeye state are extremely polluted, with things such as PCB's, PAH's, mercury, and coal. These chemicals have been traced back to steel mills, abandoned coal mines, and even vehicle pollutants. These chemicals pose threats to fish, wildlife, humans, and drinking water. However, recently cleanup has been in effect in some streams, like Dick's Creek and Ottawa Rver, to restore them, but the cost is outrageous. Other places in Ohio, like Little Scioto River, are unsure about when restoration will begin, due to the high price involved. HOW HIGH IS THE PRICE?
