Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has made a more sustained commitment to peaking carbon emissions by the year 2030. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written in the UK newspaper The Financial Times to warn that developing nations must play a leading role to combat climate change. More than 170 countries representing 97% of the world's emissions have submitted their climate pledges to the UN.
