The future of waste management: What will it look like?

The future of Waste management What will it look like? Waste volumes can only grow The world population is expected to grow and grow between now and 2025. Estimates put growth at another 20% 01 This growth will be most prevalent in the African and Asian continents. This will, in turn, lead to exponential growth in the production of waste & Tandfill. More effective systems will be put in place This same growth in population will in turn lead to more advanced waste management solutions & technologies. 02 This same growth in population will in turn lead to more advanced waste management solutions & technologies. Waste composition will change Changing food cultures in developing countries will mean that the nature of waste itself will change. 03 For example, demand for agricultural produce will rise exponentially, and the demand for meat will double. Urban food waste is expected to rise by at least 44%. What we waste will be affected by how we consume What we waste is ultimately affected by what we use and when. The rise in portable electronic gadgets mean that electronic waste will increase in volume. 04 This raises the question of how far our current waste management systems are ready to deal with changes in consumption. We will all need to become more responsible Not only will we have to re-think how we conceive waste, we will also have to re- think how we dispose of it. 05 We will all have to get better at transforming waste into energy if we are to succeed in the long-term.
