MASTERS OF SEX FACT OR FICTION? Showtime's dramatic and controversial series Masters of Sex is based on Thomas Maier's biography of sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson. How much of the TV show is pure fiction and how much is based on real life events? According to the NY Times, Masters was a church-going Episcopalian and registered Republican who was generally cautious in his public statements and who sought to avoid controversy. Was Bill Masters really that uptight? FACT Lizzy Caplan's Virginia is a modern feminist's dream, but the real Virginia insisted that she was “not a feminist." Was Virginia a feminist? Last year, he was arrested for public exposure- FACT twice. Masters and Johnson had 382 men Were there really that many participants in the study? FACT and 312 women volunteer to participate in their studies. Maier's book claims that other Was Virginia ever "slut-shamed" for her involvement in Masters' study? FACT medical professionals slut-shamed Virginia and made inappropriate comments about the movies and photos she appeared in for research purposes.
