In 1988, 1963 the ball returned to it's classic look. 1964 1965 1966 HAPPY 1967 1968 1995 1969 1970 In 1995, the ballwas upgraded with aluminum skin, rhinestones, 1971 strobes, and computer controls, but the ball was lowered for the last 1972 time in 1998. 1973 1974 HAPPY EAR 1975 1976 2000 1977 1978 For New Years Eve in 2000, the millennium celebration, the New Year's Eve ball was completely redesigned by Waterford Crystal. The new crystal ball combined the latest in technology with the most traditional of materials, reminding us of our past as we gazed into the future and the beginning of a new millennium. Another 288 triangles are emblazoned with last year's "Let There Be Courage" design of a ribbon medal symbolizing the triumph of courage over adversity; and 1,152 triangles sparkle with the "Let There Be Joy" design of an angel with arms uplifted welcoming the New Year.
