MOVING CHECKLIST 5-8 Weeks to Go Clean out the garden shed and roof gutters Run down supplies of frozen and perishable food Sell large appliances | that you will not take Keep a list of incoming mail and notify change of address Tell your friends and relatives that you're n moving Prepare an inventory of everything Notify your children's school and make any necessary transport arrangements 4 Weeks to Go 3 Weeks to Go Begin setting aside any important documents such as medical and school records Notify your change of address with your solicitor, local council, insurance companies and accountant Arrange the sale of any vehicles that will not be going with you If renting, notify your landlord |Weeks 2 to Go 7 7 Days to Go Notify the bank Redirect your mail to your new address through the Post Office Arrange transportation of family pets Notify the Tax Office Change address on license and registration for vehicles Finalise utility accounts including disconnection and connection at new address Confirm new phone numbers and date of connection Collect any items being serviced. E.g.: dry cleaning or shoe repairs 5 Days to Go Cancel any deliveries of papers, milk etc Cancel any subscriptions and home delivery services Return any rental items from the library/video store Cancel any domestic services. e.g.: Lawn mowing and cleaning 3 Days to Go Dispose of any unwanted medicines to the local chemist for disposal Empty rubbish bins and clear out the garage Dispose of flammables and fuel from lawn mower and other machinery 1 Day to Go Defrost fridge and freezer. Wash out the interior of your fridge Make sure gas, electricity and water meters have been read ON the BIG DAY Carry all important documents with you Lock doors and windows and collect all keys Double check that nothing has been left behind Make sure all taps, gas, electrical switches and lights are turned off SOME IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS WHEN RELOCATING Foodstuff and liquids: Discard any open and unsealed Laundry lounge Rooms (dD Appliances: Disconnect appliances from power and water supply. Refer to the manufacturer's specifications for guidance on preparing electronic items for transport. O Washing machines: Drain out all the water and dry the interior of the machine. Contact the manufacturer for advice or service. A Outdoors Clean down garbage bins, lawn mowers, tools and other outdoor items. Plants Donate any plants when moving long distances. & Dangerous Goods The following goods cannot be moved: Packing Tips A Cooking Oils Oil Use removalist quality cartons. Pesticides A Turpentine Paint AWeed killers 5) Mark each carton with a content description, the room it belongs to and your name. Thinners A) Photographic chemicals 6) Pack books in small cartons so that they aren't too heavy to handle. |Swimming pool treatments containing liquid chlorine Remove any fuel or gas from lawn mowers, LPG Cylinders, fire extinguishers, scuba tanks, welding gas tanks, heaters and lamps. Remove batteries from appliances. M Preparing to Leave Keep a "survival pack" of those items that you may need immediately at your new home: OD) Electric kettle Soap O Paper plates | ) Coffee mugs Corkscrew Tissues ) Coffee/tea Bottle/can opener A Clean clothes Teaspoons Torch Screw driver O) Toilet paper Knife Hammer Favourite toys for young children These items should be packed in a separate carton, appropriately marked and placed at the rear of the load to ensure that it is one of the first items unloaded. When placing goods into storage, ensure that any personal documents are packed together and correctly labelled.
