ACT 18 156 ARS LAND-BRAN SERVICE SCIENCE UNVERSITIES 1945 - UF researchers honored for developing electronic bomb fuse that proves vital during World War II. 1976 – UF blueberry breeding program releases three varieties adapted for Florida climate. 1948 – Frozen concentrate orange juice invented at Citrus Research and Education Center. F1976 – College of Veterinary Medicine opens. THROUGH 1952 - UF introduces new strawberry varieties that promote dramatic growth in industry. 1976 – UF begins tropical foliage breeding program and Florida now leads the nation in production. 1998 – McKnight Brain Institute opens. 1954 - Solar Energy and Energy Conversion Laboratory 1986 - Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research 1999 – UF Genetics Institute established. established to honor Carr's decades of research. For nearly 150 years, UF and its predecessors have served the land- grant mission in countless ways, from agriculture and engineering to health care and education. Heath Fiavor Freshnesa 2010- Tasti-Lee tomato is commercialized. 1973 - Center for Wetlands is established by ecology pioneer Howard T. Odum. 1996 - Sentricon termite 2011- USDA awards UF elimination system goes on the market researchers $20 million to study impact of climate change on pine forests. 1888 – Florida Agricultural Experiment Station established under the Hatch Act. 1934-First doctoral 1971 - Florida Sea Grant program created to conduct research and education Sentricon degrees awarded.
