DISMAL STATE OF ENGINEERING IN INDIA SCHOOL EDUCATION The system of schooling in India lacks sufficient focus on problem solving, logical thinking and experimentation. PARENTAL & PEER PRESSURE • Exponential increase in the number of students seeking admission to engineering colleges. • Students with an LACK OF QUALITY EDUCATION inclination to other streams are often forced to opt for an engineering programme due to pressure from their families and peer groups • Lack of quality teachers and infrastructure - critical obstacle for many • Such students spend the next few years struggling to cope, and learning very little. engineering students • Lack of focus on research culture and problem solving - plagues the education system from the school level THE GOVERNMENT'S INABILITY Cash-strapped Government - turns a blind eye to the state of engineering education in India. • Inefficient use of power - Neither curbs the rampant low-quality education being imparted at private colleges; nor has it acted on the colleges that charge exorbitant fees for admission to these courses.
