Introducing the Office of Human Capital School Support Team

ROBERT KELSEY MEET THE OHC SCHOOL SUPPORT TEAM HUMAN CAPITAL COORDINATOR NETWORKS B, D Robert serves as a Coordinator in the Office of Human Capital in Boston Public Schools. Before this he served as Staffing Coordinator for the Substitute Management Team (SubCentral) for over a year. In this role he helped to improve staffing rates, and quality district-wide through recruitment and implementation of various initiatives in SubCentral. In addition to his role with BPS, Robert has worked for over 8 years at Dana-Farber Cancer Center as a New Patient Coordinator. When not working, Robert enjoys photography, graphic and web design, piano, kayaking and singing and is active at his church, and on the organizing committee for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast (now in its 45th year, and the oldest such event in the nation). THE BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS CHRISTINE LEE HUMAN CAPITAL SCHOOL PARTNER, NETWORK G OFFICE OF HUMAN CAPITAL Christine is a School Partner for the Office of Human Capital in Boston Public Schools. She is a recent graduate from the Harvard Graduate TINU AKINFOLARIN School of Education in the Education Policy and Management program. Prior to HGSE, she was a middle school science teacher in Philadelphia. HUMAN CAPITAL SCHOOL PARTNER, NETWORKE During her time teaching, she was involved in running the Future City Engineering Club where her students won the First Winners Award at the Philadelphia regional competition that included over 40 schools. In addition, she worked toward developing school-community partnerships by collaborating with colleagues to organize career day events, shadow Tinu works as a School Partner in the Office of Human Capital. In her days, and internships geared toward increasing interest and exposure role, she supports schools with all human capital functions, including to STEM-related career opportunities. Before teaching, she was a recruitment, selection, hiring, staffing, evaluation, development, and paralegal in New York. Christine attended Smith College and is retention. Prior to joining the OHC team, Tinu worked for UP Education originally from Atlanta, GA. She enjoys volunteering, traveling, playing Network as Manager of Innovation and Evaluation. There, she led tennis, and biking. strategic initiatives that allowed UP Education schools to make smart programmatic risks that have enhanced their respective abilities to LEAH LEVINE achieve their mission. Prior to UP Education Network, Tinu was a classroom teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools. Tinu also has experience working in finance at Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers. HUMAN CAPITAL SCHOOL PARTNER, NETWORK E She earned her BA in Economics from Bryn Mawr College and her MA in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. Tinu grew up in Boston and is a proud graduate of Boston Public Schools. Leah works as a School Partner for high schools in Network F. She TOMEKA CRIBB-JONES CO-DIRECTOR, HUMAN CAPITAL SUPPORT SERVICES supports and coaches principals to help teachers improve their instruction through implementation of the performance evaluation system, and designs professional development for aspiring and current principals to deepen their skills in instructional leadership. After serving with City Year Boston in Roxbury, Leah taught 2/3rd grade and kindergarten in San Jose, California before moving to Chile where she taught and served in several leadership roles in an English immersion Tomeka is Co-Director of Human Capital Support Services in the Office school. After returning to the United States, she worked with Jon of Human Capital. In this role, she oversees School Partners and School Saphier at Research For Better Teaching to capture on video the Coordinators in their efforts to support schools in recruiting, hiring, and practices in the Skillful Teacher. Most recently, Leah worked with the developing teams of highly effective educators. Tomeka joined the DC Public Schools to train and support the teacher evaluators. She holds Office of Human Resources in 2004 as Chief of Staff and Special Projects. a B.A. in English from Cornell University. She is excited to be back home Before transitioning to BPS, Tomeka worked as an HR generalist and in Boston with her husband, Doug. training manager for the New England Organ Bank and as an administrator on the SunLife Financial recruitment team. Tomeka is a Mattapan native. She has two children in elementary school and LAUREN MCLEAN-BRITT absolutely loves turtles. SENIOR HUMAN CAPITAL GINA D'ADDARIO COORDINATOR, NETWORK G HUMAN CAPITAL SCHOOL Lauren joined the Boston Public School district after having a productive PARTNER, NETWORKC career in admissions and recruiting at Emerson College, her alma mater, and Wheelock College, a premier institution for teacher preparation. Coming from Wheelock College, Lauren transitioned smoothly to the Gina works as a Human Capital School Partner for Network C. After Boston Public Schools as a Teacher Recruiter. After Recruiting teachers serving in the Match Corps/AmeriCorps in 2011-12, an urban education for the district for several years, she was then afforded the opportunity fellowship program based in Boston, Gina stayed on with Match to transition to the role of Staffing Manager, which shifted her focus Education for a second year, working as a Recruitment Manager. Most internally to providing quality customer service to School Leaders, recently, Gina has worked in Human Resources at UP Education Hiring Managers and all BPS employees. In her new role as Senior Network, a non-profit school management organization. In this role, she Coordinator for the Office of Human Capital, Lauren is looking forward establish new and efficient systems that has had the opportunity to work closely with Boston and Lawrence to working with colleagues will enhance overall customer service delivery. ALI GROSS PARTNER, NETWORKB HUMAN CAPITAL SCHOOL Michelle is the School Partner for Network B in the Office of Human PARTNER, NETWORKA Capital. Michelle started with Boston Public Schools in the Office of Human Resources as a Staffing Manager, working with K-8 schools and Networks B and D. Prior to joining BPS, Michelle was at Partners Ali is a School Partner with the Office of Human Capital. Before joining Healthcare at Brigham and Women's Hospital in their Human Resources the OHC team, she worked for seven years in and with Boston Public department, support employee relations, staffing, and recruitment. Schools. Most recently, she was the Managing Director of the Center for Michelle graduate from Northeastern University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Education at Boston Arts Academy, where she organized Science in Business Administration and Human Resources. In her spare professional development, coaching, and advocacy work for teachers time she likes to spend time with family and friends and likes to attend and administrators. Her prior position at Boston Arts Academy was concerts and other social events with her husband. Special Projects Coordinator, managing school operations, community partnerships, and facilities and strategic planning. Her classroom CAROL PACHECO experience includes teaching 6th grade with Citizen Schools at the Edwards Middle School and tutoring high school writing in BPS for three Professional Learning HUMAN CAPITAL COORDINATOR NETWORKS E, F years. Ali has also been with Initiative, a collaboration between the Boston Teachers Union and Boston Public Schools, helping to support deep, meaningful, and relevant professional learning experiences for educators. She graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and Sociology and from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with Carol serves as a Human Capital Coordinator. In this role Carol provides a Master's degree in Education Policy and Management. In her free transactional and research support to School Partners. Prior to this role time, Ali altemates between practicing yoga and eating delicious food, she was the Founding Operations Associate at both Excel Academy- with the balance tipped slightly toward eating. Chelsea and Excel Academy-Orient Heights, where she played a key role in opening up these two new schools and creating a strong operations structure. As an Operations Associate, Carol managed a SARAH TANG HAUSMAN number of operational projects including the school nutrition program, recruitment and enrollment, and family outreach. Carol was also the Network Finance and HR Manager for Excel Academy. She managed the HUMAN CAPITAL SCHOOL finances, bookkeeping, and HR paperwork for the network. Carol holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Bryant University. PARTNER, NETWORK D Sarah joins the Boston Public Schools as a School Partner. She has spent ANGELA RUBENSTEIN CO-DIRECTOR, HUMAN CAPITAL SUPPORT SERVICES most of her career working in special education, first as a volunteer at a Shanghai orphanage, assisting with a program for infants with disabilities and later as a Special Education Teacher and Coordinator in open-enrollment charter schools in New Orleans, Louisiana. Consequently, she is passionate about ensuring that schools have the right support and expertise necessary to provide high quality services to students with a diverse set of needs and abilities. A native of Los Angeles, Sarah graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon with a Angela works as Co-Director of the Human Capital Support Services team. In her role, she facilitates the work of the OHC Coordinators and BA in English Literature. She completed an Ed.M. in Education Policy and Management at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Most School Partners to support schools in recruiting, hiring, and developing recently, she served as an Education Pioneer Fellow at New Schools for teams of highly effective educators. Prior to joining the OEE team, New Orleans, where she worked on city-wide challenges related to Angela taught high school math for seven years in Silver Spring, MD human capital in special education. and Chicago, IL. Over the course of her teaching career, she has served as a Math Department Chair, mentor to new teachers, advisor to students, as well as cross country, field hockey, and lacrosse coach. She CHASON ISHINO holds a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education from Northwestern University and a Master's Degree in Education Policy and Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. HUMAN CAPITAL SCHOOL PARTNER, NETWORK G SHARON SODERGREN Chason serves as the School Partner to High Schools, where he provides HUMAN CAPITAL COORDINATOR training and support to headmasters, school administrators, and teachers in the tools of the evaluation system. He also continuously NETWORKS A, C works to build the Office of Human Capital website into a platform for school-based calibration and collaboration and works closely with Shakera Walker on Teacher Leadership for the district. Chason first Sharon Sodergren is a Human Capital Coordinator supporting Networks started his career as a high school ELA teacher in Western A & C with their human capital needs. Sharon has worked at BPS since Massachusetts, specializing in teaching to at-risk 9th graders. He went 1987 in a variety of different roles. She began her career in the Special on to have a eight year career as an English teacher, with experience as Education department and then served as School Secretary at the a member of the ILT, an IB teacher, and a Speech and Debate coach. Warren Prescott School for 17 years. In 2011, Sharon returned to central Before this, he earned a Bachelors in English Literature at Amherst office to work in the Network Superintendents' Office. She joined the College, a Masters in Teaching English at Brown University, and a Human Capital office in 2014 and is eager to put her in-depth Masters in Education Policy and Management at Harvard Graduate of knowledge of school-based operations to work as central office Education. Though a long time resident of Southern California, Chason redesigns its supports for BPS schools. Sharon is a native of considers himself bi-coastal, preferring the straightforward manner of Charlestown and attended Wheelock College. She is the mother of two New Englanders over the sunny disposition of Californians.
