HISTORY OF THE BUSINESS SCHOOL 1819 1881 The Ecole Supérieure de Commerce of Paris (now ESCP Europe) was founded. Acknowledged to be the first business school in the world, today it has campuses in five European nations. The Wharton School of the Business schools were not a particularly glamorous academic choice when they were first developed, for the most part in the late 19th and early 20th century. Most were attempts to provide some formal education in accounting and commerce practices, for students who wished to find management careers in the industrial economy of the time. The first graduate program was introduced in 1900, but it would be another fifteen years before another one came along.
