DETERMINING THE COST OF A CUSTOM E-LEARNING COURSE Custom e-Learning courses do not have a single set cost because every course is unique in regards to its requirements, content, and the needs of the 2 3 learners it serves. Also, the more content you need • Content is not fully structured for e-Learning and no storyboards are available • Content already exists in another format or medium, i.e. Face-to-face training developed, the greater the required ID time. • Professional level or advanced subject matter • Topic outline is partially created and curriculum is still being finalized Instructional Designer Time • Subject matter is highly specialized • Course does not exist in any other format or delivery method • Content has no structure and only exists in the SME's head or in rough notes Subject Matter Expert Time How long will it take? The time needed to develop your course depends on the complexity of the 3 factors shown above and the overall duration of your course. Generally, shorter, less complex courses could take a few weeks to a month to develop and longer, more complex courses could require 6 months of development time or more.
