The Rise of the Nonprofit Sector Although not often thought of as a strong economic player, the nonprofit sector continues to grow and provide millions of meaningful jobs around the country, while also contributing billions to the economy. Check out just how dynamic the nonprofit sector is. What is a Houprofit? A nonprofit is a tax-exempt organization that benefits public interest. They fall into ten major categories: 1 Arts, cultures, and humanities 4 Health services (e.g., (e.g., museums, theaters) 8.
