ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENE$$ IN LATIN AMERICA The 2012-2013 Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) covers 144 major and emerging economies. The report assesses the ability of countries to provide high levels of prosperity to their citizens. Scoring a variety of indicators out of a possible 7 points, below is a sampling of where LatAm ranked globally. Latin American economies have Global Competitiveness Rankings continued to grow steadily in the past year at an average rate of 4.5%. Panama, Chile, & Uruguay are extremely Openness to Foreign Direct Investment open to FDI. Panama Country Global Rank GCI ranked 9th globally. Unfortunately, Bolivia is Score 4.67/7 4.65/7 4.49/7 4.40/7 4.36/7 4.34/7 4.28/7 4.18/7 4.13/7 4.01/7 3.94/7 3.88/7 3.87/7 3.80/7 3.78/7 105 3.77/7 3.73/7 3.67/7 3.46/7 Puerto Rico 31 not as open and ranked Chile 33 130th. Panama 40 Brazil 48 Paraguay & Brazil must further develop their Public Air Transportation. Mexico 53 Costa Rica 57 transportation infrastructures in order Peru 61 to be more competitive. Colombia 69 74 Uruguay Guatemala 83 Trust in Politicians Ecuador 86 LatAm struggles with trust in Politicians due to widespread corruption. Honduras 90 П1 Argentina El Salvador 101 94 Chile & Uruguay ranked 5 times higher than Paraguay & the Dominican Republic. Argentina ranked 2nd to last globally. Bolivia 104 Dom. Rep. Nicaragua Paraguay Venezuela 108 116 Costs of Crime&Violence 126 Highest: Switzerland 5.72/7 Education Systems f SCHOOL Lowest: LatAm suffers from extremely high costs of crime & violence. Burundi 2.78/7 Guatemala ranked last globally, El Salvador ranked 2nd to last, Costa Rica & Puerto Rico offer the highest quality Education in LatAm. & Honduras ranked 3rd to last. The Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Paraguay, & Peru fell in the bottom 10% globally.
