CREATING CONFIDENT KIDS DO THINGS WITH YOUR CHILD. NOT FOR YOUR CHILD 1 Coaching your child will help them become a confident player in the game of life. 2 ENCOURAGE VOUR CHILD TO TAKE REASONABLE RISKS ON LIFE Obsessing about your child's safety and trying to protect them from the world will only limit their development. 3 PUSH YOUR CHILOREN TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN SCAFFOLDING AND LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE ALWAYS THERE TO HELP When children build their confidence based on conquering manageable challenges, it is often referred to as "scaffolding". 4 BE THERE TO HELP. BUT DO NOT DO ALL THE WORK Do not set your child up to fail. If you see failure on the horizon, it can be a difficult decision whether or not to step in and help. Sometimes bailing your child out can prevent them from feeling the impact of significant life lessons. Then again, research has shown that should you stand by and allow your child to fail, the child can then perceive that as being unloved. 5 GOVE YOUR CHILD PRAISE FOR THE EFFORTS THEY PUT IN. NOT THE RESULTS OF THOSE EFFORTS Motivating your child in this manner will help them keep improving for years to come. The life lesson you want them to learn is that hard work pays off. 6 TEACH YOUR CHILD TO SELF-ENCOURAGE Preparing your child with an internal voice to comfort themselves when things go wrong is essential to their development. Sayings like "I think I can, I think I can" and "There's always next time" can stop a child from feeling defeated. 7 BE CONFIDENT IN YOURSELF. VOUR CHOLD WOLL BE LOOKING TO VOU FOR EXAMPLES AND ANSWERS If they see you as a confident person, they will become a confident person themselves. 8 SHOW YOUR CHILO EFFECTIVE WAYS TO MANAGE FRUSTRATING TIMES You do not necessarily need to remove what is causing your child's frustration, but it is important that you encourage confidence in your child during these times. As your child gets older, and with your guidance, they will naturally gain better frustration management skills. 9 CONTINUOUSLY SHOW YOUR CHILO THAT THEY POSSESS THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THE WORLD AROUND THEM Although there will always be limits to your child's ability, the more they have a chance to create and inspire change in the world, the more capable and confident they will feel. 10 LET YOUR CHILD SHOW OFF THEIR SKILLS Motivating your child in this manner will help them keep improving for years to come.
