Try using Driver Reviver for updating Drivers (http://www.reviversoft.com/driver-reviver/) a. Click Start b. Type" Aero " C. Select Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects d. Click Next ( to launch the Aero troubleshooting wizard) The troubleshooting wizard will try to identify and resolve and problems. If the troubleshooting wizard doesn't correct the problem. e. Install the latest driver for your graphics hardware. ( That could be all your system needs.) UPGRADE FROM VISTA HANGS AT 62% You've decided to make the switch but Windows 7 won't play nice. a. Reboot ( your PC should roll back to Windows Vista.) b. Open the setup log file \$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log to view what happened. Microsoft say this error is usually caused because the Iphlpsvc service has stopped responding, and just adding an environment variable to ignore it will fix the problem. c. Visit http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/975253 for the recommended fix from microsoft. 6 HARDWARE STOPS RESPONDING Quite often you may have hardware problems when upgrading from Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7. This is usually caused by out of date driver. There are several ways you can go about updatingi your drivers but one of the easiest ways is to: a. Download Driver Reviver to scan for the latest drivers available for your hardware. DVD DRIVE NOT FOUND It's hard to play a DVD when Windows does not recognize the drive. a. Run REGEDIT (This is the standard solution, though may not correct every instance of this issue) b. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ C. Delete both UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the right-hand pane (UpperFilters.bak and LowerFilters.bak entries can be ignored) 8. WINDOWS 7 THEMES CHANGE YOUR CUSTOM ICONS Want to keep the custom changes you made to the Windows appearance? a. Right-Click an empty part of the desktop b. Select Personalize c. Choose Change Desktop Icons d. Clear the" Allow themes to change desktop icons " box e. Click Ok Your icons will now be preserved, and the only way to change them will be manually, from the same desktop Icons dialog. TASKBAR PROBLEMS Restore the old Quick Launch toolbar in just a few clicks. a. Right-Click the taskbar b. Click Toolbars c. Select New Toolbar d. Type %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch in the folder box e. Click Select Folder The Quick Launch toolbar should then reappear. You can move and resize it to suit your needs. 16 MISSING EXPLORER FOLDERS You may have noticed, system folders like Control Panel and the Recycle Bin are no longer displayed in the left-hand Explore pane. This seems like a backward step to us, but there's a quick solution. a. Click Start b. Select Computer c. Click Tools d. Choose Folder Options e. Check" Show all folders" f. Click Ok Now all your top-level system folders will reappear. 1 MISSING APPLETS Live Essentials will get you potentially unnecessary extras, like an ActiveX control to help upload files to Windows Live SkyDrive. & the Windows Live Sign-In Assistant, which can be useful if you want to switch between multiple Windows Live accounts. If you have only one Windows Live account, and no plans to use Live SkyDrive, then these options can safely be removed. a. Click Start b. Select Control Panel c. Choose "Uninstall A Program applet" TOO MANY MINIDUMPS Mini dumps take up useful hard drive space. Remove the older dump records to save space. a. Run REGEDIT b. Browse to KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl C. Set MiniDumpsCount to 1 Windows will only now keep the last dump file and you'll free up a little hard drive space.
