Tips for Combating ?@#'! WORKPLACE STRESS IN More than 40% of U.S. workers say their jobs are extremely stressful. Stress related healthcare expenses and missed work cost companies $300 billion. It is quite obvious that learning how to effectively manage workplace stress is vital for employers and employees alike. So what is one to do? Here are 9 tips to help you avoid becoming burnt out and drained: (1. LEAVE WORK at WORK Don't bring your work home, so you can fully enjoy the time off that you deserve. A survey by AOL found that 62% of people check their work email on the weekends. Let it wait 'til Monday! TAKE 12 @ 12 Statistic after statistic shows that workers who don't take breaks are less productive. Even 12 minutes of getting away from your desk can be beneficial to your job and health. MAKE FRIENDS Employees who have a best friend at work are seven times more likely to be engaged in their work than those who do not. Just being able to have a good laugh can alleviate stress. 4.) GRAB A SEAT It may seem slightly unorthodox, but many studies have linked the value of a chair to your health and keeping comfortable while you work. One study even says a good chair could increase productivity by an average of 17%! If your boss doesn't go for it, it may be a worthwhile investment on your own dime. 5. BE POSITIVE Don't be a negative Nelly. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that companies in the U.S. lose $3 billion per year due to effects of negativity. Negativity can derail the productivity train, causing employees to shift the focus to petty issues that have nothing to do with their jobs, causing unnecessary stress and frustrations. 6. TAKE A VACATION ( or two ) A staggering 57% of vacation days, days unused. Book as studies show an Americans don't use all their leaving an average of 11 that ticket to Aruba right now, annual vacation can cut the risk of death from heart disease by 50% and men by 32%. (7.) CATCH MORE ZZZ's! Sleep may seem like a luxury, but it is a must for overall health. Studies show that lack of sleep increases the body's production of cortisol, a hormone produced in response to stress. Workers polled admitted the following results of sleep problems: 20% 27% 40% Said they frequently found it difficult Felt that their production was below what they had expected Said they have become impatient with others at least a few times a month to concentrate at work 8. SIMPLIFY! SIMPLIFY SIMPLIFYI It has been said an average worker has 36hrs of work on his or her desk and spends 3hrs per week sorting piles -- trying to find the next project to work on.
