MORE DAYLIGHT HOURS While others are indoors at work, graveyard shift workers are free during the day. Night shift workers have been found to have higher rates of sun exposure (and healthy vitamin D) and spend more time outdoors. More time during the day also means it can be easier to run errands and take care of personal or other business matters. MITIGATE RISKS Many doctors say the health risks associated with rotating or night shifts can be reduced with healthy eating, exercise, and consistent sleep, which will also benefit you in the long run. The BLS and Occupational Safety and Health Administration offer guidelines for workplace violence prevention in late night work and such risks are on the decline. CONCLUSION As scary as the graveyard shift can be, there are advantages and disadvantages to working the night shift. If you find yourself burning the midnight oil for work, you are not alone.
