THE LARGEST RECALLS IN HISTORY # 2 6.7 MILLION The engine mount began to separate from frame of the vehicle and fall back onto the throttle. Let's just say, the results weren't pretty. GM 1965-1969: Belair, Brookwood, Camaro, Caprice, Chevrolet, Chevy II, G Series, Impala, Kingswood, Nova, P Series, C Series, Townsmen 1971 #7 4 MILLION #9 3.7 MILLION Seat belts were becoming frayed and eventually would detach themselves from the vehicle frame. Ford 1970-1971: Ford Rancheros, The windshield wiper blades started to come loose and fall off 1949-1969: Beetle 1972 Lincoln, Mercury, Ford completely. 1972 # 8 GM 3.7 MILLION After it was found that stones 1949-1969: Centurion, Electra, Estate Wagon, LeSabre, Riviera, Belair, Biscayne, Brookwood, Caprice, Impala, Kingswood, Kingswood Estate, Townsmen, Olds 88 & 98, Bonneville, Grand Ville, Catalina kicked up from the road into the engine area disabled steering, GM was forced to install engine shields to prevent this prob- lem from occurring again. 1973 # 3 5.8 MILLION GM 1965-1969: Century, Regal, EI Camino, Malibu, Monte Carlo, Caballero, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Lemans Bolts in the suspension were easily loosed, rendering the driver unable to steer the vehicle. 1981 #11 3.6 MILLION Ford Faulty fuel-line connectors were coming loose and posing a serious fire hazard, especially when vehicles were low on fuel. F150-350 trucks, Lincoln, Mercury 1987 #10 3.7 MILLION Passengers became trapped in their vehicles due to cracked and disintegrating safety-belt release buttons. 7.9 MILLION 1986-1991: All Honda o Acura models 1995 The ignition switch had to be replaced in millions of vehicles following multiple reports of it sparking and starting a fire in the steering column. Ford 1993-1998: Escort, Mustang, Tempo, Thunderbird, Cougas, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car, Aerostar, Bronco, F-series Truck 1996 # 12 3.6 MILLION The cables which held the lowered tailgate in place were becoming frayed and fractured, causing the entire piece to fall upon the bumper. There were a reported 134 injuries caused by this malfunction. GM #5 1999-2004: 4.5 MILLION Ford Silverados, Sierras, 2004 Escalades, and Avalanches 1992-2003: This time, instead of the ignition switch causing a fire inside the vehicle, the cruise control button Vans, Pickups built between, '97-'02 Explorer and Windstar, and the '95-'97 and '01-'03 Ranger mini-truck was the culprit. 2005 #6 # 4 4.5 MILLION 5.3 MILLION Ford failed to learn from their past mistakes. Similar to the 2005 recall, the cruise control button continued to catch on fire. 2004-2010: Ford These vehicles were recalled after there were vast reports of the driver-side floor mats becoming wedged beneath the gas pedal, causing the vehicles to accelerate uncontrollably.
