All revenue cotributions are calculated as averages from the years 2008-2012, Revenue Drivers Net Interest Margins (NIM): Since Consumer and Business banking is the largest of JPMorgan's five business segments (in terms of revenues), net margins are the main revenue driver. JPM's net interest income amounted to around 50% of its net revenues. JPMorgan has the lowest NIM of 2.20% when compared to its three peers. There are two reasons for this: firstly, Wells Fargo - the peer with the highest NIM of 3.46% - has a different business model that is more inclined towards mortgage banking (long-term lending). Secondly, Wells Fargo has substantially lower long-term debt originations - around $125bn - as compared to JPMorgan-whose long term debt stands at around $270bn. Long term interest rates are higher than short term interest rates.
