How to Get Your Car Winter Ready

HOW TO GET YOUR CAR WINTER READY Planning a winter road trip? Before you set off there are a number of things you should check to make sure your vehicle is winter ready: el TYRES It is important to make sure you have plenty of tread on your tyres, we recommend changing them if you have any less than 3mm. Make sure your tyre pressures are correct as incorrect tyre pressures will reduce the life and performance of your tyres. You may also want to consider winter tyres. ENGINE DIL Oil lubricates the moving parts inside an engine and to maintain the health of your engine it is vital that you check your cars oil level regularly. It is also important that your engine oil is replaced at the correct service intervals. Due to cold temperatures some engines will require different oil during winter, check your manual to see if you need to change yours. BATTERY Due to cold temperatures your car battery is most likely to fail during the winter months. Check that the connections are tight and the terminals are corrosion free. If your car battery is more than 3 years old we recommend you get it tested to make sure its not going to leave you stranded. WIPER BLADES Check that your wiper blades completely clear the windscreen with each swipe and replace if they fail to do so. Regular washer fluid will freeze in cold temperatures so ensure you fil your washer fluid reservoir with the correct mixture. ANTIFREEZE If your engine coolant freezes it could cause serious damage your engine. To make sure this doesn't happen replace your engine coolant with a 50/50 water/antifreeze mix. It is also important to check your radiator hoses as the cold weather can cause c rubber resulting in a leak. damage to the FUEL Cold temperatures can cause moisture to buikd up in your fuel tank, if the moisture freezes it can result in serious damage. Keeping your fuel tank above half full will prevent this as the fuel will absorb moisture before it builds up.
