The History of ERP ERP Software Solutions weren't always offered and available for Small & Medium Enterprises. They started off as expensive legacy systems, primarily focused on inventory management & manufacturing requirements. Take a look at the evolution of the ERP system. Centralized 1960s Computing Systems During this time, many large enterprises implemented a 'centralized computing system' (legacy system) primarily for their inventory management 1970s The MRP was born At this point, Material Requirements Planning systems were developed to improve parts requirements planning during production. IIIII 1980s MRP II The original MRP evolved into the Manufacturing Resources Planning system, emphasizing more on optimizing manufacturing processes. This system included HR, Finance, Distribution Management as well as Project Management modules. 1990s The ERP system was first introduced The first ERP system had company- wide inter-functional integration. This system integrated the following business processes: Manufacturing, Distribution, Accounting, Finance, HR, Project Management, Inventory Management, Transportation & Service 2000s ERP in the 21st Century Leading into the 2000s, many ERP Add-ons were introduced such as CRM, eCommerce solutions, Supply Chain Management, Advanced Planning, Business Intelligence, and so on.
