Huangyaguan Pass of the Great Wall: Huangyaguan or Huangya Pass is a small section of the Great Wall of China. History •Originally built in 557 AD during the Northern Qi Dynasty, it was restored in the Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644, and then again in 1985. Features Castle Widow Tower Just off the mountain is a castle built like a labyrinth with a won- derful five-arch water way. Hand-built by 12 widows whose husbands died building the wall. Average Wall Height 42km Defense Length Landscape • The steps are steep due to the cliffs and crags on which the wall was built. Some sections are so steep that you may become dizzy looking down, be careful. • Hike westward to see the Banlagang Mountain which is a natural wall continuing the Great Wall. • Waterfalls and springs slide down the cliffs and crags as you hike the wall. Hiking Tips Buses available from the Tianjin train station to get to the Huangya Pass. Be in good shape: The steps here are steep and uneven. Dress in layers that can be removed. Bring rain gear and an umbrella.
