The sword is heavily decorated with engraved runes from Viking lore, which have helped historians piece together this important period in history. This is not the only Viking Sword that has been found, but it is by far the most decorated and famous of all. The blade measures 35 inches long and is made of steel. It also features bone hilt with an elk antler handle.
The blade of this sword was x-rayed at the request of a British museum curator who wanted to see if there were any hidden compartments or designs that could reveal new information about this piece of history. As you can see in the picture above, there are no secret compartments or designs on the blade itself, but there are some very interesting markings on the hilt — clearly indicating that Vikings were not just barbarians who came over here to pillage our land, but that they were actually a very advanced culture with advanced technology and sophisticated practices of warfare.
